Dear Applicant:

The Black Families Association (BFA) Scholarship Fund annually awards scholarships to

African American students who are entering in community colleges, four-year accredited

institutions, or accredited vocational schools. We are delighted that you have submitted your

name for consideration as a BFA Scholarship recipient. Recipients will be chosen by the BFA

Scholarship Committee.

Enclosed you will find the QUALIFICATION CRITERIA and APPLICATION

PROCEDURE for applying for a BFA Scholarship. Please complete the documents,

(incomplete applications will not be considered) and return them to:

The application must be postmarked by: FRIDAY, April 22, 2011.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

In order to qualify for a BFA Scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria:

1. You must be of African American decent.

2. You must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher.

3. You must be a high school senior who has applied or been accepted for admission within one year of the award of the

scholarship for the next term as a full time student in a community college, four-year accredited institution or vocational school.

4. You must live in Contra Costa County.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES & CHECKLIST

Please note:

Failure to fully complete and return the application and additional materials by FRIDAY, April 22, 2011 could result in disqualification.

1. You must complete the entire BFA application.

2. You must have TWO references from a teacher or administrator.

3. You must have an official copy of your transcript and needs to be included with your application.

4. You must submit a ONE PAGE, DOUBLE-SPACE autobiography (include your family and school life to date, why you want to go to

college, community involvement, etc.).Autobiographies over the page limit may not be considered.

5. Please attach a 2x2 picture (wallet size) of yourself to your essay. Head shot only (e.g. graduation picture, school picture, etc,).

NO full body shots (e.g., prom pictures, sports photos, newspaper articles, etc.) and DO NOT staple picture. Pictures will be used

for the scholarship dinner booklet for 2012.

6. If you are accepted as a recipient you must show proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning; (community college, four-

year accredited institution or vocational school) along with the complete address and telephone number of the financial aid office.

If you are chosen, you will be notified by the end of May, whereby you are asked to attend a scholarship reception in your honor in

July.

***We strongly suggest that as soon as you receive this application, you request your transcript from your school. This will allow adequate time for processing.
